Give Yourself Over (to absolute pleasure), 2021
Sculpture/Performance
This multimedia piece explores the idea of overindulgence as a form of self sabotage, and the pain of healing from it. The sculptural, figurative and ritualistic elements of this piece work together to illuminate the consequences of overindulging in unhealthy habits, cravings and temptations with a complete lack of self control or will power. Execution in the form of a shrine represents the artists romanticization of these self destructive behaviours, while the subsequent destruction materializes the idea that "enough is enough", for continuing this behaviour any longer will result in irreversible damage to the body and mind.
Materials (shrine): wood, painted cut-out figures (oil on paper), stickers, receipts, clay, fabric, beads, candles, and found objects.
Materials (destruction): cake batter, bong water, ashes, wine, gold paint, mustard, ketchup, sprinkles.
